H. Hibbett on Tanizaki - Afiq Amjad

 I think what resonated with me the most was the translation for masculine and feminine voices, especially when the original uses katakana and hiragana to differentiate the two. I honestly wouldn't know how to go about doing so, and I'd probably just go with something like normal writing with subtle differences in how the two characters wrote in their diaries. As said by Hibbett, using italics and non-italics just isn't efficient because of how much an eyesore it would be for the readers to read every page of the feminine voice in italics. 

The other part was the difficulty in translating titles, especially in the example that he gave, "Manji." Due to adverse reactions English readers would have if directly translated, it is a tedious process in which to choose a title that stays faithful to the original and gives the same feeling for English readers. I have also had difficulties in translating titles, albeit not to the extent of "Manji", titles as the ones we had to translate for the newspaper and magazine articles recently were hard for me because it needed to be snappy and have that punch that other English articles would have.
